Okay okay, so I know it’s not technically Valentine’s Day anymore....But come on! Who can resist this little girl?

This little sweetie pie was so excited to get to the chocolate that we had trouble getting the wrappers off fast enough, showing her frustration by trying to eat the candies whole!

Had so much fun during this session! (I can only imagine the sugar-high!)

May you find great beauty in the smallest of things.

SoapBox

Not too long ago, I was playing tourist down in Atlanta & while visiting one of the modern museums, I happened to overhear a father instructing his son:
“Just keep walking, it’s just art.”

I was completely taken aback.
Is this the message we want to be sending to our children? When did the arts lose its importance in today’s society? Without creativity, expression, or ingenuity... how will we ever move forward? I challenge you, parents, to encourage artistic expression in your children. One of the greatest disservices we can dump on the younger generations is under education in the arts.

** I was having trouble getting my thoughts and feelings out on this one, but then stumbled upon this great quote from a great writer (thank you Miss Janis for this divine sending).**

From Kurt Vonnegut:
“Go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”

Stepping off my soapbox now....please continue to enjoy your day.
In the after math of a complete system meltdown the only way to rise above is to unplug everything and reboot one cord at a time. Sometimes it is just as important to unplug yourself as it is your computer system.

Here is to a little reevaluation, rejuvenation, and reinvention…

The definition of a life change is when your path crosses a point of no return. Your life gets divided into before and after. These events can be anything: a wedding, a traumatic event, a graduation, death of a loved one or birth of child.

Life changes can be gentle, like crossing a finish line, or they can rip open your entire existence forcing you to rebuild into something stronger. And some life changes wake you up at 3 and 6 and ...

With all the storms causing havoc across the city, I know it can be hard to pick up the pieces, to rebuild, to start again. They say night is always darkest before the dawn, but I believe even in the lowest of lows there is peace to be found.

There is beauty in the mess, in the breakdown, & if we just can’t take another brutal storm, then I think we should throw on some old clothes and go play in the mud!

Shaken & Stirred

I LOVE my job (ask anybody), but occasionally it’s good for one’s routine to get shaken a bit. The 24 Hour Film Festival is happening this week, and I went to photograph the festivities. The outpouring of creativity was so thick it hung in the air for anyone’s taking. In a room full of artists it is easy to get caught up in the “my camera’s bigger than your camera” ego. But take it from someone who has seen a pro-camera get shown up by the iphone, it is NOT about the equipment ... but the vision behind the shot.

Photography is an ever evolving craft, to stay in the forefront you must always be willing to learn. My degrees mean nothing if I can’t be openminded to a rookie getting me back to the basics. A humbling, and refreshing experience.

To relearn one's craft ... isn't that such a beautiful thing?
